The goal of any renovation in an apartment is to make it as comfortable and cozy as possible. To achieve this, you should pay attention to the most important aspects. One of them is a well-chosen color scheme. Well-chosen tones can completely change the look of a room in your favor. Conversely, a carelessly selected color scheme can ruin the appearance of the most expensive and modernly furnished apartment. Therefore, it is especially important to learn how to choose the right color combinations in the interior.

Combination of colors in the interior

Color circle

Since ancient times, special attention has been paid to the symbolism of colors. In some world civilizations there was even a cult of paints, which indicates the influence of this quality on our body on a psychological and even physical level. Modern psychologists and designers also support the theory of the psychology of paints.

Pastel colors help create a feeling of coziness, a state of relaxation and a warm mood. These include peach, pale orange, soft yellow, and beige. Orange - symbolizes cheerfulness, just like red, it helps concentrate attention and elevate mood. Cool shades, such as blue, help increase productivity and improve alertness.

The influence of color on the psyche and health

After conducting many experiments, psychologists have found that color can influence our psychosomatic and even physical state. A certain background of the room can increase productivity, promote rapid recuperation and even recovery.

Our ancestors have long determined that wearing red clothes helps to recover faster. This was passed down as a legend. However, in the modern world, the influence has been confirmed by experienced specialists in the field of psychology. And there is even color therapy for the treatment of various psychosomatic diseases, which was used in Ancient Egypt.

Having this knowledge, you should carefully consider the choice of palette in different rooms of the apartment.

Color combinations in different rooms

Each room in the apartment has its own purpose. Since we have already found out that colors can influence a person at various levels of the organization, we need to choose the main background for the room in accordance with its functions. The master must bring about maximum harmony of shades so that the living room can be a comfortable place to relax or work comfortably.

You should also take into account your own preferences in the selection of wallpaper or furniture. The design of the apartment should reflect the essence of the owner, and at the same time, consistent with the psychology of color, functionality and design.

Bedroom

This room can be considered a shrine, no guests are invited into it, and no one works here. It is created for rest and relaxation. Therefore, a person should feel comfortable and cozy here. The bedroom is a complete reflection of the owner’s “I”, and can combine all his whims.

Warm pastel colors are considered the best solution for the bedroom: peach, yellow, pale orange with brown, green and gray. All shades of purple are also suitable. It goes best with white and black.

However, the bedroom tends to accommodate any ideas of the owner. And it can be red (which is not considered the best solution for the bedroom as a whole), or in black and white.

This is interesting!

In Norway, red is considered best for the interior of a bedroom or living room.

The combination of colors in the arrangement of the kitchen allows you to embrace all the colors. In this case, you need to pay attention to their compatibility. It is believed that cold colors are unacceptable for the kitchen, as they discourage appetite. You decide.

Here are some tips for choosing shades for a given room:

· if you use a light base, choose a kitchen surface from which it will be easy to remove dirt;

· It’s better to choose neutral colors (green, brown, red);

· the kitchen palette should be of moderate brightness;

· do not use more than 3 contrasts within one room.

Green and brown are considered the best solution for the kitchen - they have a beneficial effect on appetite and create a feeling of comfort. Also good are burgundy, red, orange, which are combined with black, white, and beige.

Choosing a palette for your living room depends on how you want to present it. Burgundy, white, black, in combination with each other or with gold, will give it an aristocratic look and formality. A massive black table will especially add a plus to this setting.

If the living room is intended for cozy gatherings, it is better to choose a set of warm shades. Yellow, brown, black, orange are perfect. An excellent solution is to combine beige, peach and brown. When choosing a palette for a nursery, you need to take into account the age of the child. If this is the room of a child aged 1-5 years, you should refuse a light background, as there is a risk that all the walls and furniture will be written and painted by the child’s hands. In this case, bright shades are suitable: green in combination with orange, yellow, brown, black.

A girl's bedroom can be done in warm colors. A good option is to use pink with gray, white or burgundy. You can also take beige as a basis and combine it with pink, light green, light green or purple.

Also, a light base is suitable for an older child’s nursery. The ideal solution is to combine blue with white, purple or gray. Such a room will be very light and delicate, and will also visually expand the space.

A little humor on the topic ;-)

How to wear blue correctly?

Blue is a universal color that combines two opposites in its spectrum: from delicate blue and turquoise to gloomy dark blue. We are accustomed to associate blue shades with light, heavenly, summer-spring, dreamy, and dark blue colors with either a boring business style, or with something like “as long as it’s not black.”

In fact, all blue colors can be extremely beneficial to decorate and complete your wardrobe. Light blue tones of clothing go well with contrasting dark blue or red, orange, and brown.

Also fresh and original, blue is combined with gray, golden glitter, and soft olive color.

Don't risk wearing blue with pink or green; such a splash of color may inadvertently make you look like a parrot.

Combination of blue and orange

The color of aqua (or simply turquoise) goes well with purple, yellow and brown; cream shades are also suitable.

Dark blue and cream color in clothes

Electric blue will complement your golden dress or light brown cream trousers. Strict blue, almost dark, the color goes well with:

People who prefer blue are strong, confident individuals. That is why it is the most advantageous color option after black in the business world.

How to use green clothes?

Green is a popular color these days. The eternal sunshine of green makes our minds dream more, strive for victory, self-control and self-confidence.

Green reminds us of youth and spring; this color of Saturn can revive any boring look and even an old, gloomy wardrobe.

Dark green color is a very good choice for business clothes; in it you will instill confidence in your interlocutors, stability and success.

For yourself, green can become a harmonious, pleasant and calming color.

Green is especially loved by red-haired people, so we can assume that green is friends with:

  • orange;
  • blue;
  • blue;
  • yellow;
  • white.

Pale green will not look “too much” if you wear such wardrobe items under black or gray clothes. You should be careful when combining green and red, purple, and brown.

What to do with purple?

Purple is a mixture of red and blue, two opposites, elements. However, purple is unique for its calming effect on the human psyche, its harmonious and attractive appearance.

This color is good for women, especially creative, pregnant, romantic, young and mysterious women.

Clothing in purple colors goes well with:

  • yellow;
  • orange;
  • white;
  • with lighter or darker shades of the same purple in one look.

For a meeting it is good to match purple with black, and for a romantic walk – with white.

For fair-haired or fair-haired girls, lilac, lilac, the color of grapes or ripe plums will look especially touching, and if you are a brunette, then an almost inky color, rich blueberry, thick indigo color will look good.

To avoid overdoing purple, don't pair it with red or green.

Brown shades

Brown is the favorite everyday color after black. Clothing in this range of colors looks great as a base in your look.

You can wear brown accessories, shoes, jewelry (leather straps, bracelets, beads), and the rest of your wardrobe - according to the dictates of your soul, and you will look correct, harmonious.

The brown color depends on the texture of the fabrics in which it will be served.

It harmonizes well with leather elements - jackets, shoes, bags, straps.

Brown goes great with:

  • white;
  • denim, blue;
  • bright blue flowers;
  • creamy light tones;
  • fuchsia pink, fawn, beige;
  • green.

What to do with beige?

Beige color is also the base of the image. It will serve well as a tint background for bright colors: red, yellow, crimson, turquoise.

Beige, almost like white, you can wear under everything: it does not attract attention, it looks smooth and appropriate, restrained, but not as deliberately elegant as white.

Turquoise – what to wear with it?

Turquoise is the color of spring, summer and early autumn. In this color, it is important to understand what clothes can be made in this tone.

Turquoise or more mint shade

Turquoise is good in the form of light blouses, trousers, tops, dresses, scarves.

The aqua color will look good with light colors: white, yellow, golden, cream, lilac, light orange, light gray, brown.

Turquoise does not match red, pink, light green, or green.

Red – passion and challenge

Red is the king of all existing colors and shades. Associations with red are love, thirst, strength, power, challenge, emotion.

But you need to know how to combine red, because it is one of the most insidious colors: from an emphatic accent, it can slip into unceremonious vulgarity.

Red is worn with black - it's a classic, with white - it's a bold contrast. This color can be added to burgundy, green, blue, yellow.

This color is beneficial with purple, lemon, light green, but it is especially pleasant with beige or blue. The taboo applies only to the combinations red-brick, red-brown.

Bordeaux color in clothes

The color Bordeaux is a deep shade of red. Depending on what color burgundy is combined with, the image can look elegant or touching.

You can create a comfortable and harmonious interior not only by choosing the design of the space, but also by correctly combining colors in the interior. They are the ones who can influence the emotional and physical state of a person. Thanks to correctly selected color relationships, the house and its owner become an integral organism.

The color wheel is one of the important tools for creating the right color combinations in the interior. Issac Newton was the first to systematize the spectrum, dividing a white ray of light into red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. This was the first color scheme.

Today, color wheels consist of one, two and three discs. They show what the relationships are between the colors arranged in a circle. All the colors of the spectrum are located on the axis of the circle - primary, secondary and tertiary. For example, Itten's color wheel:

Primary colors

All colors, with the exception of white, come from primary colors. Blue, yellow and red (the triangle in the center of the circle) are the primary tones. Combinations of these three colors make up the secondary colors.

Secondary colors

The next six colors of the circle are obtained by mixing two primary (primary) colors. For example, purple is obtained by mixing red and blue, and green is obtained by mixing blue and yellow, but orange is a combination of red and yellow.

Tertiary colors

If you mix one primary color with a secondary color, you get a tertiary tone. Total - 12 colors. You can also create a tertiary color by mixing a base tone with more of another base tone to create a tertiary color. For example, one part blue with two parts red will create a red-violet color.

Advice :
It is important which colors are located next to the tone that interests you, as well as those that lie opposite the color you have chosen. For example, yellow goes well with the opposite violet, and light green is harmonious with the color of bright pink or fuchsia. Next to yellow there are two colors with which you can create harmonious chromatic combinations.

Shades and halftones

Shades are obtained from the main color. For example, blue has light blue and dark blue shades.
. Tone is the result of adding white and black (gray) to the base color. Tone, unlike pure pigment, makes the color softer and more pleasing to the eye.

How to mix colors

The perception of color depends on the distance of the color spot from the human eye. For example, as the distance increases, green appears more bluish, yellow begins to turn orange, and orange begins to turn red.
. The saturation of the color tone of the interior depends on the illumination of the interior. Light levels range from light to dark on a gray scale. Floors and walls can reflect light, so light-colored surfaces in a room enhance brightness, while dark-colored surfaces dampen tones, making them dull.

Advice :

.The quality of brightness or depth of color shade depends on the light and shadow in the interior. Therefore, adding a gray tone to the design of a room can significantly soften the effects of different color combinations.
. If you need different shades of blue, dilute the color combination of the interior with a black shade. And then the cold tones of blue will sparkle with tonal gradations.
. To change the shade of any paint in the interior, add white. It will dilute and extinguish unnecessary brightness in the color combination.

Scale for determining color proportions

Using this scale, you can determine the proportions of tones and halftones. A safe ratio for color combinations in the interior is 70/20/10.
70% - tertiary shades in a neutral base
20% - secondary colors
10% - primary color

Advice :
Use moderation when mixing colors! Try not to mix more than a few shades. Two or three colors in a neutral base are considered the safest.

Various color schemes

Color schemes and triads are a set of interior color combinations that work together to create a visually appealing palette. The color combinations given in color schemes can be considered classic. Of course, the possible color combinations are endless. But experienced designers feel which of the schemes to apply in practice.

Classic triad

A combination of three colors that are equidistant from each other. The use of such contrasting combinations will create a harmonious palette. You should choose one main color and use the other two as accents.

Analog triad

Combinations of 2 to 5 colors located nearby make up similar or related combinations. For example, yellow-orange, yellow, yellow-green, green, blue-green.

Complementary combinations

A complementary color (also known as a contrast color) that is opposite the second color on the Itten color wheel. The combination of these colors creates a bright and exciting effect, especially at maximum saturation.

Rectangular diagram

A four-color combination is a scheme consisting of one primary color and two additional colors. The company includes one more additional tone to highlight accents. For example, blue-green, blue-violet, orange-red, orange-yellow.

Square pattern

A combination of four colors located at equal distances from each other. Dynamic colors are different in tone and, at the same time, complement each other. For example: purple, orange-red, yellow, blue-green.

Rules for using a color scheme

Color combinations in the interior are conventionally divided into warm and cold. Thanks to them, you can visually enlarge or reduce the room. It all depends on the chosen basic tone. This is why the selection of complementary colors is so important. They are located opposite each other on the color wheel. Each tone brings out the richness of the other. When using complementary colors, one color should be soft and weak in tone, while the other should be more dominant. For example, an intense dark purple should be paired with light yellow shades.

Decorate adjacent rooms in similar colors. Plan your color scheme based on how visible each room is from the other. Look for related colors. For example, related tones are located next to each other on the color wheel. These colors produce less contrasting effects than complementary colors. For example, the dark tones of a blue-green room combined with the light blue colors of the adjacent room can give the feeling of floating in a blue lagoon.

Choose a base color that you like best and use as many shades of it as you can think of. For example, they give maximum effect when adding related or complementary colors. Contrary to popular belief, monochrome is not a black and white duo or one single color. True monochrome combinations often consist of one main tone and several adjacent tones. For example, green color may look quite independent and self-sufficient. It fills the entire interior space, but this is only at first glance. If you look closely, you will see tones of apple and grass, young greenery and swampy mud in shades of khaki, juicy lime and pistachio, transparent candy in yellow-green tints and olives. All these shades are successfully emphasized by white, gray, as well as interspersed tones in the colors of metal and wood. That's basically how you get monochrome!

Advice :

Choose one favorite color that will become the main color in the interior. And then add to it objects and accessories in shades and halftones of the same color, and dilute this complex monochrome range with things in neutral shades. But only a little bit - in order to shade the main palette.

First decide where you are going to use the colors in the room. The general rule when decorating is to use three different values in color combinations: light, medium and dark. Walls and floors are usually decorated in light colors, depending on the effect you are trying to create. The floors should be slightly darker than the walls to avoid a floating effect. Window sashes and large pieces of furniture are often created in a medium value to tie in light walls and floors. Dark colors should be used as an accent color in the interior.

Color temperature

Some color combinations in the interior are warm, others are cold. Psychologists say that the color of a room can affect a person’s mood and well-being and evoke an emotional response in him. Some color combinations in the interior create a general feeling of calm and physical satisfaction, while others cause internal tension and discomfort. Colors can be either an ideal partner or an enemy that you will have to fight unconsciously.

Warm and cozy colors
for the interior are located on the right side of the color wheel. They radiate positive energy and the power to unite people.

Red

radiates energy, strength and passion. Restaurants and bars often use this color of strong energies because it increases appetite and promotes socializing. And it is a common choice for kitchens and dining rooms in the home. However, red should be avoided in the bedroom.

Orange

This color is considered exciting and powerful. Its presence in the kitchen and dining room is known to increase appetite and relax. Psychologists advise using orange in moderation. Orange is less aggressive than red. It creates warmth and a feeling of joy. However, it is recommended to use it only as an accent color.

Yellow

Sunny shades of yellow are associated with happiness and warmth, but rich and bright tones can increase frustration and anger. Typically, yellow is an uplifting color. When yellow is overused, it can become distracting and overwhelming. Do not allow this color in large quantities in the children's room because children are known to cry often. But using it in the kitchen in tandem with orange will cause positive emotions and even euphoria. Yellow has different effects depending on how and in what quantities it is used.

Cool and soothing colors

Cool and soothing colors located on the left side of the color wheel provide a sense of calm and a sense of trust:

. Green. It is a calming and refreshing color that reminds us of young greenery, grass, pistachios and juicy limes. It easily fits into any room. Green conveys a feeling of renewal and growth. It is used in rest rooms, such as bedrooms. It is not uncommon to see different shades of green in the kitchen. And, of course, in children’s rooms, because children love everything natural so much, especially colors associated with nature.

Blue

If you're trying to create a calm, spa-like environment, consider blue. Like green, it is a calming color and is also good for bedroom decor. Iridescent and bright shades of blue are used in offices to increase productivity. Light blue can make a room feel bright and refreshing, while deep blue creates a sense of self-worth.

Violet

This color has long been associated with royalty and wealth. It contains the calmness of blue and the energy of red. Combined with some active tones, it stimulates creativity and vitality. However, in large quantities and in tandem with red, it becomes dangerous to health, causing euphoria.

Advice :

Brown should be mentioned as the most common color in interiors. Brown consists of several colors, which are based on warm and cool tones: red, yellow and blue. Dark brown or wenge is obtained by adding black to this triad. Brown represents restraint, reliability and modesty. This is one of the most powerful tranquilizer colors, it belongs to the warm colors of the earth, and therefore has become the basis of a psychologically calming palette.

Brown fits perfectly into color combinations in the interior, for example, with gold, as well as tones similar to it in shades, for example, with yellow. If we ignore the interior, many people associate brown and red colors with warts. Follow some principles so that they don't bother you.

The appearance of purple in a brown tones suggests subtle idealized relationships and feelings. Such combinations are appropriate in living rooms and dining rooms, where an environment that brings pleasure to the body is needed: delicious food, luxury items, beautiful accessories and furniture.

Color combinations in different rooms

Before choosing a color for the kitchen, living room, bedroom or nursery, you should remember that white plays an important role in the palette.
White - this is the basis of the spectrum. It really helps freshen up the space and makes it feel clean. Therefore, this color is always appropriate in pastel colors, combinations of various colors of a neutral palette in the interior. But even warm and hot shades from Mexican interiors allow white color, as a complementary and accentuating blue and light blue color combinations.

Pastel color combinations

Pastel colors are the result of adding a lot of white to various combinations of complementary colors. They create a comfortable, spacious feeling in any room.

Neutral color palette

Shades of white, beige, dark brown, gray and black form the basis of neutral color combinations. The neutral palette is the lightest and airiest for one obvious reason: all these neutral shades mix with most colors on the wheel. They can be stylish and dramatic. For example, black and white, as neutral tones, create a wonderful palette of complementary shades for different base tones.

Advice :
If you choose neutral color combinations in your interior, use bright accessories to accent the walls and add interest to the room. When you're ready for a change, simply change the color of your accessories.

Bedroom

The bedroom interior is usually created in soothing colors. However, through different color combinations using complementary tones, designers have opened up a lot of possibilities. For example, combinations of gray and beige colors in the bedroom interior create the lightest and most weightless intimate spaces in which you can relax from the hustle and bustle of the day.
For example, the bedrooms are magnificent, in which pearl-pearl shades predominate, combined with a beige tone.

A bright bedroom is created when you choose one intense and colorful primary color, for example, fuchsia pink. The selected color on the color wheel is combined with light yellow. They complement each other, but by introducing white, or a similar color to yellow, khaki, you will get a more balanced interior.

A bedroom in gray colors is a “shelter” for a person seeking privacy and escapism from the bustle of the outside world. A bedroom in gray tones is indifferent to the bright and conflicting outside world.

Red shades between warm related yellow, peach and orange tones, which are complemented by combinations of blue, turquoise and light blue. The impression of contrast is hidden thanks to gray shades and white, which actively participates in the overall palette.

A bedroom with color combinations, among which turquoise occupies a dominant position, looks optimistic. In such an interior, it is important to create a complex color scheme consisting of several additional tones, for example, khaki, blue, light blue. And also tones that are located opposite blue-green on the color wheel, namely beige, light yellow or even peach, but you need to feel the measure. Because with the introduction of warm, bright shades, the room will become like a guest room for communication.

Fashionable Scandinavian style is reflected in the bedrooms. The main tones in color combinations are brown and purple, which require the support of calm shades of gray, lilac and grass. Natural colors are combined in such a bedroom with airy shades of frosty air.

A bedroom in blue tones gravitates towards peace and perfection. Nothing seems to distract you from relaxation. With a minimum amount of furniture it looks extravagant. If you add islands of white and cream to blue, this will soften the pressure of blue. In rooms serving as a place of relaxation, splashes of optimistic pink are preferred. Bedroom in lilac tones

Raspberry color in the bedroom is for extravagant people. And the partner yellow and neutral black in shiny nickel colors help to enhance the extravagance of purple.

Living room

A room in gray-blue combinations is very calm, seasoned and requires the introduction of neutral tones - black and white, which dilute the harsh atmosphere of two related tones.

Blue is practically incapable of becoming boring; it is fresh, serene and promotes friendly relations between people. But dark blue combinations evoke nostalgia for the past. The situation will be corrected by small splashes of pink and purple, turquoise and white. Introducing yellow will create a joyful atmosphere in the living room.

Color combinations in neutral tones are the most beneficial theme in the interior. After all, in such rooms you can relax with your family and gather friends. You never get tired of combinations in neutral colors. The main range is wenge and adjacent colors: beige and gray - all colors of the earthy palette. And yet, two or three bright inclusions would not hurt from the tones located opposite these combinations - orange and soft green, two color partners.

A living room in a green palette evokes a pleasant feeling, reminiscent of young spring grass and the first summer apples. A fresh, juicy and delicate green tone in the interior should be supported by related shades. And if you succeed, your living room will become your family’s favorite place to stay and popular among guests. And believe me, no one will want to leave you for a long time.

Two colors - pink and azure - are simply meant to be together! Additional beige, white and gray hold back the onslaught of bright fuchsia. All together they form a classic triad on the color wheel, complementing each other.

A bright room requires a combination of self-sufficient brightness tones, the basis of which is red-pink and dark gray. Tertiary shades located on the opposite side of pink and red will be no less juicy.

The ocher tonality of the living room accepts brick and orange, as well as additional tones of gray, khaki and light blue. Orange can be introduced into the design in accessories.

Bathroom
A Tiffany or Sea Breeze bathroom is a pleasant color scheme made up of related tones, the primary of which is blue.

Pink is not typical for a wet room, but if you have a pink bath, then the entire room should be dressed in pastel shades of pink, diluted with a gray tone.

Green combined with related tones and white gives an incredibly refreshing feeling.

Children's
A children's room in beige tones must be combined with pink and light green flowers in delicate shades. White color will not hurt to create complete harmony.

A room in lilac tones is usually made for girls. Lilac is a tertiary color formed by two tones: secondary pink and primary blue. Lilac brings a touch of playfulness and carefree.

Kitchen

The peach dining room seems bright only at first glance; if you look closely, you can see a combination of several primary, secondary and tertiary colors in the interior. Primary yellow found partners among tertiary peach (yellow + orange), secondary light orange and beige.

Olive is a complex secondary color formed by two primary colors: yellow and green. It is part of the spectrum of green color, which carries freshness, youth and love of life. Yellow, participating in combinations with green, softens this tandem. The resulting yellow-green with a large percentage of yellow symbolizes peace and contemplation.

Conclusion

The perception of color is purely individual. Therefore, when composing the palette of your interior, do not restrain yourself by the generally accepted framework, focus on your own worldview and desire to do something special. Don't forget that only your favorite colors will bring joy. A color wheel will help you create color combinations in the interior using the primary color as a basis.

Regardless of whether you attach meaning to color or not, color affects each of us. Therefore, when designing, it is important to choose the right combination of colors. With the help of color you can not only create visual effects, but also introduce a certain psychological atmosphere into your home.

Psychology of color

People themselves create a living environment around themselves that can affect our psyche and health. This must be taken into account when choosing primary and additional interior colors. It is necessary that the colors that surround us reflect the characteristics of our character. Only in this case will staying at home become comfortable.

We perceive color not only with our eyes, but also with our whole body. It is color that determines mood, well-being and affects health. In the ancient world, it was believed that the right color could cure a person from illness. And the countries of the rising sun skillfully used the healing properties of flowers.

Thus, white color is closely associated with spirituality. It helps us gain confidence. But if you stay in a white room for a long time, your self-esteem may change. A person begins to feel inferior, and sometimes white instills a feeling of superiority over others.

Red color has a beneficial effect on the circulatory system: it improves blood circulation and activates the growth of red blood cells. It excites the nervous system and causes it to produce adrenaline. Increases blood pressure.

Yellow color makes us forget about bad things. It fills us with energy and gives us a feeling of protection and warmth. When yellow shades predominate in the interior, the functioning of the digestive system, the flow of bile, and cognitive processes are activated.

Green color unites and calms people. People with claustrophobia feel better in a green room. Green color can treat lung diseases and flu.

The blue color forces the consciousness to go beyond the real: in a blue room we want to dream and think about something distant. We relax and can fall asleep: blue color treats insomnia, stress, childhood illnesses and migraines well.

The color purple is closely associated with creativity. It forces you to develop your imagination. Helps with a pessimistic mood, when we lose faith and despair.

Brown color allows a person who is subject to the opinions of other people to become more decisive and independent. Creates a melancholic mood, balances fun and joy.

Theories of color combinations

Theories of color combinations are methods of combination, specially developed formulas for finding colors that are in harmony with each other. There are several ways to determine the color combination for the interior.

Color circle

There are three primary colors: blue, red and yellow. When mixing them we get additional:

  • Violet(Red and blue);
  • Orange(red and yellow);
  • Green(Yellow and blue).

If you mix the primary and secondary colors, the result is a secondary color. So, we can get light green by mixing green and yellow. Thus, we get a color wheel (see Figure 1), in which we can distinguish colors:

  • Related(colors occupying adjacent sectors - green, light green, yellow);
  • Complementary(colors located in opposite sectors - green versus red);
  • Monochrome(shades of the same color - in the center of the color wheel they are lighter, at the edge they are the darkest).

The combination of colors in the interior is chosen using a color wheel, using one of the formulas:

  1. Triadic combination. In this case, 3 colors are taken as the main colors for the interior. They are located in a circle at equidistant distances from each other;
  2. Double split complementary circuit. This color scheme includes 4 colors. First you need to choose 2 colors that you like and combine with each other, and then 2 colors that are complementary to them (opposite);
  3. Divided complementary circuit. There are only three colors in this scheme. The main one is selected, and then its complementary one. But the complementary color will not be included in the interior; instead, two colors are taken that are at the same distance from it on the right and left sides.

Antipode

If you are a bright and individual person, then choosing two primary colors that contrast with each other is suitable for you. That is, for one primary color you need to choose the “antipode” color. These will be:

  • White black;
  • Green - red;
  • Yolk color is blue;
  • Lilac - yellow;
  • Purple is the color of lime;
  • Pink - light green.

You can see that these colors are complementary on the color wheel.

When you choose the main colors for the interior (there can be from 2 to 4), select 2-3 more tones. For example, if the primary colors are blue, pink and red, then the additional tones will be monochrome colors - blue and pale pink.

What colors don't go together?

The color combination can be any. But some of them can depress and depress us. Therefore, the color palette for the interior should be selected in such a way that we, while at home, can have a good mood and feel comfortable. For this:

  • Avoid combining warm dark shades and cold light shades in the interior;
  • Avoid combining warm light and cold dark shades.

But today fashion is very capricious. It allows for the combination of the incongruous. Therefore, if you feel comfortable, feel free to choose your favorite tones.

Color gradation

Color scientists have managed to create entire tables and systems for the formation of harmonious pairs of shades and colors. When a clothing collection is created, craftsmen carefully study color compositions.

Did you know how dramatically colors affect people? Color creates a particular mood, people form a certain opinion, get an impression, a reaction due to the effect of different shades.

Thanks to the color palette, we can understand which colors are ideal with each other and which are not.

Separation of colors from pastel to saturated. Warm and cool shades:

Using this spectrum, you can easily create images that include from three to five tones. The main colors are red, blue, yellow. All others are considered derivatives from mixing the main ones.

When using 50% of two primary colors, the following secondary colors are obtained: green, orange, purple. Changing the percentage will result in many other shades. There are several more ways to find shades that are harmonious with each other, let's look at them.

Principles of combining shades

-Achromatic combinations imply that the main color is gray, white and black. These colors complement each other perfectly, like other tones in the spectrum. This image involves the use of bright color accents: a scarf, brooch, shoes, bag or jewelry. Many women like to prefer this option. Any errors are excluded here.

- Monochromatic combinations- a combination in one image of different tones of the same color (from light and pastel to the darkest). Try to combine different shades of one color that suits you in clothes, for example: from deep emerald to soft light green or from soft pink to dark burgundy. The scheme is quite simple, but it looks very elegant. To avoid monotony in your outfit, add neutral colors (gray, white, black). Or you can choose a textured fabric instead.

- Complementary combinations- These are color combinations using contrast. Pairs of red and green, yellow and violet, blue and orange are the most popular contrasts. This combination is for a bold nature, because these colors are hard to miss.

- Triadic combinations- this is the use of three colors that are located at the same distance from each other on the color scheme. With this model of combining shades, a bright contrast is created, but the colors are in complete harmony.

1) use main circuit- this is the use of three colors (red, blue, yellow);

2) in secondary circuit use derivative colors (orange, green, purple);

3) for tertiary scheme combinations with tertiary colors (obtained from mixing the primary color with a derivative) are used. For example, these could be images with orange-yellow, yellow-green, red-orange, green-blue, violet-red, blue-violet color combinations.

What to wear with what

So, what colors can be safely mixed, and what you need to be careful with:

  • Usually a successful combination is considered to be one that contains from two to four colors, but no more than that. Plain clothes look too boring, and excessive use of bright colors causes irritation, distraction, and anxiety;
  • the color scheme should be in different proportions. If there are three colors in your style, then one will definitely predominate, the second emphasizes and shades the previous one, and the third emphasizes the details of the image;
  • colors such as black, gray and white are universal and go with all bright shades. They are also considered basic in the image. And as a complement to them, colorful, colored details are needed. Black elements form winning combinations with simple, pure color. It can be orange, yellow, blue, or red;
  • A harmonious combination is one in which related shades are present (for example, purple with blue and cyan). Contrasting colors also look great: purple with yellow, green with red, and so on. Your figure will look even slimmer if you make sure that the bottom is one to three shades darker than the top;
  • You can always successfully combine pastels of any shade. Bleached peach, lemon, blue, pink and beige tones will look unique together.

Experiment with colors so that it looks stylish, impressive and tasteful!
